I believe that many people are confused about the difference between nylon and polyester, how to distinguish between the two raw materials is an indispensable skill for textile people, through the study of this article, you can also easily distinguish fabric components.

Part 1
polyester

Polyester -- Polyester fiber, also known as POLYESTER, is characterized by good air permeability and moisture removal. There are strong acid and alkali resistance, anti ultraviolet ability. Generally, the cloth with the multiple of 75D is polyester, such as 75D, 150D, 300D, 600D, 1200D and 1800D. The appearance of the cloth is darker and rougher than that of nylon.

Part 2
nylon

Nylon -- Nylon, also known as Nylon, polyamide fiber. Advantages are high strength, high wear resistance, high chemical resistance and good deformation resistance, anti aging. The disadvantage is that the hand is hard. The famous ones are Pertex, Cordura. Generally 70D multiple cloth is nylon, such as 70D, 210D, 420D, 840D, 1680D are nylon material, the gloss of the cloth is relatively bright, smooth feel.

Polyester VS nylon

Nylon general elasticity is better! Dyeing temperature at 100 degrees is OK! Dye with neutral or acid dyes. High resistance is worse than polyester, but his strength is better, good anti-pilling! Dyeing temperature 130 degrees (high temperature and high pressure), hot melt method in general under 200 degrees baking! The main characteristics of polyester are good stability. A small amount of polyester can help anti-wrinkle and plasticity in general clothes. The disadvantage is that it is easy to get static electricity and easy to pilling. But now the improved polyester has improved these shortcomings.

The mechanical properties

High breaking strength and elongation; High initial modulus; Good elastic recovery; The fabric is stiff, good wear resistance and good dimensional stability.

High breaking strength, buckling strength and elongation; The initial modulus is low and the fracture work is large. Good elasticity, good wear resistance, fabric shape and straight, briskness is poor.

Hygroscopic staining

Hygroscopic staining difference W =0.4%; Can not use normal temperature dyeing; Easy to static electricity, poor pollution resistance.

Hygroscopic dyeing W =4.5%, better than polyester.

Thermal resistance

High melting point 255-265℃; Good heat resistance and thermal stability.

Heat resistance is poor, safe use temperature: below 93℃ (nylon 6), below 130℃ (nylon 66).

Optical properties

Good light resistance, second only to acrylic fiber.

Poor light resistance.

Corrosion resistant

Acid resistance, alkali resistance, no mildew and no decay

Alkali resistance not acid resistance

1.14g/cm³

Physical properties

Generally speaking, nylon Oxford cloth is used to make bags, and the two feel different. Dacron feels rough, and nylon feels very young and slippery. In addition, fingernail scraping, fingernail scraping, there are obvious traces of tapestry, traces are not obvious is nylon, but this method is not as intuitive and easy to distinguish as combustion method.

Chemical properties

The most simple difference between nylon and polyester is the combustion method! The black smoke of polyester is very prosperous, the white smoke of nylon, in addition, the residue after burning, the knead of polyester will be broken, and the plastic of nylon! Nylon is twice as expensive as polyester.

Nylon, close to the flame that is rapidly shrinking into a white glue, melting in the flame drip and foaming, burning without flame, leaving the flame is difficult to continue to burn, emitting celery flavor, light brown melt after cooling is not easy to grind.

Polyester, easy to ignite, close to the flame is melting, burning while melting black smoke, yellow flame, emit fragrant smell, burning ash for black brown hard blocks, fingers can be broken.

 Nylon

Close to the flame

Close to the flame -- soften, melt and curl

Flammable, soften and shrink

In the fire

Melt, slow burning, yellow flame, blue edge of flame, black smoke from the top

Crunch, melt, burn slowly, produce small bubbles, the flame is small, blue

Leave the flame

To continue to burn, sometimes to cease to burn and to die

Cease to burn and self-extinguish

Burning smell

Slightly aromatic or sweet

Amino flavour

Residual characteristics

Ash is a hard black ball that can be broken with the fingers

Ash is light brown melt, not easy to crumble with the fingers

The difference in performance

In short, nylon performs better than polyester, but costs more than polyester. Nylon products wear resistance, force, color fastness, gloss and other aspects are better than polyester products, and not easy to produce dead wrinkle.

The main differences between polyester fabrics and nylon fabrics are:

1Nylon price is about 1 times higher than polyester.

2 Nylon is smoother and softer than polyester.

3The wear resistance is almost the same.

4 Nylon has a little elasticity. Polyester has no weakness.

5 Nylon dyeing is more difficult than polyester dyeing.

Material Related Indicators

D: denier, a unit used to measure the density of textile fibres, showing the weight of fibres in grams per 9,000 metres (i.e. the lower the denier, the thinner the fibres). Formula D = * 9000 G/L. Fiber weight/fiber length *9000. Material strength index commonly seen in backpack fabrics. Generally used 450D, 500D. Materials above 500D are generally used in areas prone to wear and tear. Such as the bottom of a backpack.

T: Tex, a unit used to measure the density of textile fibres. It refers to the weight of 1000 meters of fiber or yarn at a fixed moisture regain in grams. The formula of T = G/L * 1000. Fiber weight/fiber length *1000.

TX = After shrinkage treatment RS = tear resistance N = nylon P = polyester fiber

TXN 1000: Very strong and wear-resistant fabric, used in climbing special backpack and large backpack is easy to produce friction parts.

TXN 500: Cloth made of nylon fiber of compact tissue for use in mountain hiking and light weight backpacks.

RSN 500 GRID: TXN 500 fabric is mixed with black tear resistant fiber and woven fabric.

RSN 500: Use nylon fiber as woven material to make cloth similar to tear resistant tissue.

TXP 900:900-weight polyester fabric for use in hiking packs and small packs where wear is more likely.

TXP 600: Polyester fabric that has been used for many years, with excellent touch and quality.

RSP 600: Modified from TXP 600, with tear - resistant fibrous tissue.

SRN 420: Small area nylon fiber fabric for tear resistance. Used on technical backpacks to increase fabric strength and reduce backpack weight.

SRN 210: Nylon fiber fabric for small area. It is tear resistant. It is used on medium to large packs to reduce the weight of the pack.

Mnp420: This kind of fiber cloth looks to have the texture of metal.

1680 Nylon: This tough fabric is often used in travel bags.
